CNA Certification Test

What is the CNA Certification Test?

Nursing is a lucrative field these days because of the myriad of jobs available, but nursing assistants are also in high demand as they take a lot of the daily patient care tasks away from the nurse.

CNA Certification Test

If you want to train to become a certified nursing assistant, you will need to follow a training program, which once completed, must be followed by taking a CNA certification test. Only once you are certified can you start working in the field.

Components of the Test

To attain CNA certification, you must pass the test that consists of two parts. Part one is written, and it will contain questions testing your comprehension on basic nursing skills that you learned in your certification training program.

It will review your medical training, record keeping skills, lab procedures and your patient care techniques. The second part of the exam is the clinical part where you will need to demonstrate your practical skills on a live model. You will receive three to five different nursing assistant techniques that you learned and perform them.

Some of the skills that may be tested include washing patients' hands, taking their temperature, placing and changing a bedpan, patient dignity and positioning a patient properly. Your practical skills will be observed be a medical examiner, and you will be notified right away if you passed the test. If you didn't, you can take the test again, but the number of re-takes differs in each state.

How to Prepare for the CNA Certification Test

Of course the most important part in preparing for the certification test is that you have completed a full training program, but there are additional steps you can take. The questions you get on your test will always vary, especially in the clinical portion, but you can practice with sample questions from previous tests. Your first step is to log on to the Med Care training website which contains 12 sample test questions and career information.

Once you have practiced with those 12 you can go to the Pearson Education website where you can select your state and take a practice certification test and register for the actual one. Furthermore, on the nursing assistant central website, you will find information pertaining to the clinical part of the exam. There are additional resources that you can buy, but if you follow these 3 free websites, you should be well prepared.

Becoming a nursing assistant is an important step in your career, but you must ensure you are adequately prepared for the CNA certification test. If you take the best course you can find and practice on all the free websites available to you with sample questions, certification will be yours before you know it.
